SDSU Global Campus earns two awards for online and professional education excellence
Also, SDSU Georgia has been recognized for creating innovative programs that foster educational opportunities for international students.
The SDSU Global Campus team received two awards from UPCEA, a leading online and professional education association, demonstrating the unit’s commitment to providing innovative, accessible, and impactful learning to a diverse global community.
SDSU Georgia, established in 2014 to educate students in the Eastern European nation in several SDSU bachelor’s degrees, received the UPCEA Global Program Award for International Partners. The award recognizes exemplary and innovative programming that creates international educational opportunities.
“This groundbreaking model is a collaborative effort with three leading universities in Georgia — Georgian Technical University, Ilia State University, and Tbilisi State University — offering the community in Georgia access to the world-class education synonymous with SDSU,” said SDSU Global Campus Dean Ian Gibson.
Georgian students can earn SDSU Bachelor of Science degrees in computer engineering, computer science, and civil engineering.
Additionally, Casey Rothenberger, Executive Director, New Program Development at SDSU Global Campus, received the Adelle F. Robertson Emerging Professional Continuing Educator Award, which recognizes the scholarship, leadership, and contributions to the profession of a person who has entered the field within the past five to ten years. Rothenberger, a 2009 graduate of SDSU, has been with SDSU Global Campus for 15 years. Rothenberger joined the SDSU College of Extended Studies as a student assistant in 2010 and worked up to his current leadership role in the renamed SDSU Global Campus.
“Casey’s extraordinary impact and leadership are nothing short of inspirational,” said Gibson. “His recognition is not just well-deserved; it's a testament to the bright future he represents for our field. This award is a celebration of the trail he is blazing for the next generation in higher education administration to follow.”
Since 1953, UPCEA has recognized its members’ outstanding contributions to the Association and the field, as well as their achievements in innovative programming, marketing and promotion, community development and services, research, and publications, and many other areas.
“The caliber of nominations received this year is a testament to the unwavering dedication of UPCEA members to advancing excellence in higher education,” said Catie Weaver, Instructional Designer II, Western Kentucky University and Chair, UPCEA Awards Committee. “As we honor this year’s recipients, we celebrate their profound contributions to the evolving landscape of online and professional education, inspiring learners and peers alike.”
Rothenberger, SDSU Global Campus, and the other award recipients will be honored at the 2024 UPCEA Annual Conference, March 26-28 in Boston, Massachusetts.
