The San Diego State University softball team will be traveling a couple of hours north this postseason after drawing the NCAA Los Angeles Regional hosted by UCLA. The Aztecs are looking to reignite the same magic at Easton Stadium that led them to a 3-0 sweep of the competition during last year's regional, sending the program to its first-ever NCAA Super Regional.

SDSU, which earned an automatic bid for winning the Mountain West tournament over the weekend, is the only team to make the NCAA tournament from the conference. The Aztecs enter the NCAA tournament led by power hitter Mac Barbara, MW Co-Player of the Year and MVP of the MW tournament, and her MW All-Tournament teammates Katie Goldberg, Alyssa Garcia and Allie Light.

The four-team Los Angeles Regional begins Friday with SDSU (31-18) facing off against Virginia Tech (39-12-1) in Game 1 followed by No. 6 seed UCLA (37-10), one of seven Pac-12 teams in the tournament, going up against Grand Canyon (48-11) in Game 2.

This will be SDSU's sixth trip to UCLA out of their 14 appearances in an NCAA regional (2001, 2006, 2010, 2012, 2015 and 2023).

The Aztecs' history-making journey in 2023 began at Easton Stadium with dominating performances over Liberty, 7-0, and Grand Canyon, 6-0, in the first two rounds of the regional. Liberty eliminated No. 2 overall seed UCLA, 2-1, to set up a rematch with SDSU. The Aztecs eliminated the Flames in the final, 6-3, to punch the university's first-ever ticket to the Supers.

SDSU won its first game of the NCAA Super Regional best-of-three series against No. 15 overall seed Utah but fell short of making it to the Women's College World Series, losing 7-2 in the rubber match.
