Students, faculty, staff and administrators have begun the process to define phase two of San Diego State University’s strategic plan, the 2025-2030 plan.

San Diego State University is reflecting on the accomplishments of its strategic plan, “We Rise We Defy: Transcending Borders, Transforming Lives,” as it approaches the conclusion of the first five-year phase in 2025.

The plan, which has guided the university’s growth since 2019, emphasizes teaching, research, creativity and community engagement, all with the goal of sustaining the university and transforming lives.

"The strategic plan has been our compass and, from the beginning, we knew that this could not be a top-down initiative,” said SDSU President Adela de la Torre

“Hundreds of students, faculty and staff contributed to the first phase of our shared vision, and many more contributed to its ultimate success. This next phase is all about building on the successes of the last five years,” de la Torre said.

“All members of our community should be involved in helping to shape our future strategic activities, as the impact of this plan will reach every one of us, and the many more who will become part of our one SDSU community in the coming years.”

The Strategic Plan Implementation Steering Committee began a process of reflection in Spring 2024, when all SDSU community members were invited to provide input about additional ways to make progress toward strategic goals. That initial input informed a set of potential activities over the next five years. All students, faculty and staff are invited to review the initial list of proposed activities, and to provide feedback via an online form.

“Although budget constraints will shape what we can accomplish and at what pace, community feedback will be key in refining our efforts for the next phase of the plan,” said Jennifer Imazeki, associate vice president for faculty and staff diversity and Strategic Plan Implementation Steering Committee chair.

“In the last five years, SDSU has seen notable advancements in student outcomes, research grants, sustainability, technology advances, infrastructure, and more,” Imazeki said. “We will continue to improve for the success and overall benefit of our community – that is our strategic mission and our public good charge.”
