Women's Hoops: Aztecs cruise to 107-36 win in front of record-breaking crowd

The San Diego State women’s basketball team (9-1) cruised to a 107-36 win over Bethesda in front of a record-breaking crowd Friday.

Playing in front of kids from 60 local elementary schools for their annual Field Trip game, the Aztecs set an attendance record with 6,905 fans.

The Aztecs’ 107 points was their sixth most ever and most in a game since the 1984-85 season. Their 71-point margin of victory was their third largest in program history.

The Aztecs had six players in double-digits led by freshman Naomi Panganiban’s career-high 27 points. Adryana Quezada had 15 points, 16 rebounds, five assists and five steals.

Freshman Bailey Barnhard had career-highs with 12 points and eight rebounds. Also scoring in double-digits was Erin Houpt (11), Kim Villalobos (11) and Cali Clark had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

SDSU made 13 three-pointers, including six from Panganiban, their most since Nov. 9, 2021 (also 13). They made 40 field goals overall, 26 of which were assisted, which is their most in the Mountain West era (since 1999).

The Aztecs, who never trailed in the game, forced 34 turnovers which led to 53 points and held the Lion Angels to 31 percent shooting.

SDSU outrebounded Bethesda 46-30 overall and 25-8 on the offensive glass.

STAT OF THE GAME
The Aztecs won the turnover battle 34-6.

THE NOTE I
Adryana Quezada became the first Aztec in the Mountain West era (since 1999) to have at least 15 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and five steals in a game.

THE NOTE II
Naomi Panganiban’s 27 points were the most by an Aztec true freshman since Sophia Ramos scored 28 at CSUN Dec. 9, 2018.
