Sophia Wolf sets school record on final day of DeLoss Dodds Invitational
The senior transfer broke the indoor 800m in her first race as an Aztec.
San Diego State track and field finished competition at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational at Kansas State on Saturday led by a historic debut from Sophia Wolf.
The senior transferred to The Mesa during the winter following two years at the University of New Orleans and stamped her name on the San Diego State indoor record book in her Aztec debut. Running in the 800m, she crossed the line in 2:07.09 for a school record besting teammate Lauren Harper’s mark in 2022. The time also moves her into the number one spot in the Mountain West this season.
Wolf’s 2:07.09 was good for an 800m victory, one of three for the Scarlet and Black on the day.
Charlize James recorded the first win of the day, sweeping the 60m hurdles prelims and final. In the prelim, she won her section with a season best 8.34 seconds. She claimed the top spot in the finals with a time of 8.36 seconds.
Xiamara Young also picked up a win in triple jump on Saturday. Four of her jumps would have won the event, but her best came on attempt number with a season best leap of 12.56m (41-2.5).
After a runner-up finish in long jump yesterday, Hannah Waller claimed second again in the 60m dash. She started the event with a preliminary fast 7.40 seconds to qualify for the final where she posted a season best 7.37 seconds. She led a trio of Aztecs to qualify for the 60m finals.
Joining Waller was freshman Mikeala Warr and sophomore Olivia Hicks. Warr finished fourth overall with a 7.52 in the final while Hicks was right on her heels in fifth a personal best 7.55.
In the 400m dash, Anna Mager claimed a podium spot crossing the line third with a personal best 55.43 seconds. Shaquena Foote crossed the line with what would have been an SDSU junior class, meet and facility record 52.91 seconds, but was disqualified for crossing the transition line too early at the lap change.
Up next for San Diego State is its first trip to Albuquerque, N.M. to compete in the Don Kirby Elite Invitational on February 14-15.
