San Diego State lacrosse completed its second road sweep of the season, coming out on top 24-14 over Wofford on Sunday morning in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The Aztecs remain perfect to start the 2025 campaign, returning to The Mesa with a 4-0 record for the first time since 2014.
“It was a fun day for us,” said Head Coach Kylee White. “I’m really proud of how we’ve been able to make in-game adjustments and continue to play connected. It was a very competitive and physical game. Our team is resilient and they’re figuring out what makes us work and how to adjust when things aren’t clicking. All in all, it was a great team win.”
It was an offensive clinic for the Scarlet and Black with the most goals scored in a single game in program history. The Aztecs surpassed the previous program high of 23 points on the same field in which it was set in a 23-4 win over Wofford on March 18, 2018. Their 13 goals in the first half are the most in a half by the Aztecs since March 12, 2023 when they put up 14 against Howard in the first 30 minutes of their 19-2 victory.
Senior Nikki Seven led the offense with a career-high five goals and four assists, as well as two ground balls. She took six shots, all of which were on target.
“Nikki had an unbelievable game today,” said coach White. “She really controlled the offense in a composed manner. It’s been great watching her gain her confidence back after her injury.”
Fellow senior Meghan McLaughlin also set a new career high of three goals off three shots, tying her with Sara Toner as the second leading scorer of the game.
Tatum Neach, Tierney Schaible, Frankie Garcia, Emma Betts and Kate Christos each added two to the scoreboard while Bella Tan, Matty Spaeth and Reilly Hunter each put one in the net. The Aztecs took a season-high 50 shots, 39 on goal.
Christos, the Big 12 Midfielder of the Week, continues to make an impact all the way down the field. The junior recorded five draw controls, two goals, two ground balls, two caused turnovers and one assist on Sunday. With the help of Sophia Miller, who also earned five draw controls, and Presley Mitchell with four, the Aztecs commanded the draws 24-17. They also led the Terriers 29-18 in ground balls.
Beyond a dominant offensive performance, the Aztecs were also aggressive on the defensive side, causing 14 of the Terriers’ 25 turnovers. Neach gave the Wofford offense quite a bit of trouble, causing the Terriers to turn it over four times.
The Aztecs move to 4-0 for the first time since 2014 when they won four straight over Davidson, Winthrop, California and Saint Mary’s.
