Shaquena Foote wins 200 and 400, SDSU takes second at MW Indoor Championships
Foote sets MW and school record in 400 en route to being named the Women’s Track Performer of the Meet.

Shaquena Foote won both the 200 and 400 meters to lead San Diego State to a runner-up finish at the Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Foote first captured the 400 in dominating fashion with a time of 51.48 seconds. It was a Mountain West record, indoor program record and the fourth-fastest time in the country this season (entering conference championship weekend). She won the event by 1.10 seconds over the second-place finisher and took the indoor gold for a second consecutive season.
Foote then took down the 200 with a time of 22.89, the second-fastest indoor 200 in school history. For her efforts, Foote was named the MW Track Performer of the Meet.
Foote now has three career indoor gold medals at the conference meet (200 in 2025, 400 in 2024 and 2025) and, including MW outdoor championships, five individual titles (also outdoor 400 in 2023 and 2024). Foote has also run on four winning relay teams over the past two outdoor championships on both the 4x100 and 4x400 squads in 2023 and 2024.
Charlize James, meanwhile, won her first career MW indoor championship, taking the 60-meter hurdles in 8.24 seconds. She also won the 100-meter hurdles at last year’s outdoor championship meet.
San Diego State finished with 107 points, only trailing host New Mexico’s 136.5 points. It was SDSU’s fourth runner-up finish in the last five indoor championship meets. Colorado State (98.5), San Jose State (63.5) and Fresno State (51) rounded out the top-5 in the 11-team meet.
Jada Pierre came in second in the 60 hurdles behind James in 8.32, the ninth-fastest time in school history. Mia Reid made it three scorers for the Aztecs in the 60 hurdles, coming in sixth in 8.55.
SDSU also shined in the 800 with Sophia Wolf taking second in 2:09.22 and Lauren Harper coming in fourth in 2:10.11.
Aji Mbye logged a pair of fourth-place efforts in the 60 (7.36) and the 200 (23.50), while Mikaela Warr finished seventh in the 60 in 7.66.
In the triple jump, Xiamara Young took fifth with a leap of 12.95 meters (42 feet, 6 inches) and Alyssa Alumbres was 10th in 11.79m (38-8.25).
The NCAA Indoor Championships is set for March 14-15 in Virginia Beach, Virginia, while the outdoor season gets underway for the Aztecs Friday at the Ben Brown Invitational in Fullerton, California.
