About the Major

Learn about the role of communication and the media in shaping the public's understanding of health issues. Our major in health communication was the first in the state of California and one of only a handful of such programs in the United States. With a base in communication courses, you'll study topics such as doctor-patient communication, health communication campaigns, and communication in health risk and crisis.

Program Highlights

You'll take courses on the development and analysis of health-related messages and media; the goals and strategies of health care promotion; relationships, roles, situations, and social structures in the context of health maintenance and promotion; and applications to disease prevention, health advocacy, and communication concerning treatments.
