About the Major
Learn how language shapes, and is shaped by, our understandings of the world. Through coursework based in anthropology, linguistics, and other fields, you'll learn theories and analytical frameworks to explore language use and variation across cultures and social contexts.
Program Highlights
You'll perform analyses of language use to investigate the nature of power, identity construction, worldview, cultural traditions, and language arts. The major also involves consideration of issues of bilingualism and multilingualism, and related issues of language ideology and policy.
