About the Major
Gain a unique and valuable combination of analytical and communication skills, plus insight into one of the most intriguing aspects of human behavior. As a linguistics major, you'll learn many aspects of human language, including sounds (phonetics, phonology), words (morphology), sentences (syntax), and meaning (semantics).
Program Highlights
Your coursework will include the core areas of phonology, syntax, semantics, and historical linguistics; and interdisciplinary areas such as applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, bilingualism, computational linguistics, and the linguistics of certain languages and language families. Linguistics majors must complete a minor in another field approved by the advisor in linguistics.
