2020 Census

2020 Census

Every 10 years, the U.S. government takes a population count, called the Census, as mandated by the Constitution. College and university students are counted wherever they reside on April 1, 2020 and where they spend most of their time. For this reason, higher education institutions have an important responsibility to help ensure that every student is reached and able to be counted. San Diego State University is partnering with the 2020 Census to support the government’s goal to count every living person in the United States. The goal is to count each person living in the United States “once, only once, and in the right place” beginning on April 1 -- including hardest-to-count populations such as communities of color, non-English speaking populations and off-campus, first generation students, students experiencing homelessness and highly mobile students. Students, faculty and staff at SDSU are collaborating in a number of ways to help ensure an accurate regional population count in 2020.
